This walkthrough introduces TEMimage 2.0, our software for processing and visualizing time-domain electromagnetic (TEM) data. We cover the interface, survey data import, and soundings cleanup before running LCI and SCI inversions. From there, we look at mapping results, building resistivity depth slices and profiles, and exporting data and reports. The software supports multiple instrument types, including TEM2Go, tTEM, sTEM, and xTEM, within a single database.

Quick answers to common questions
What instruments does TEMimage support?
sTEM, tTEM, TEM2Go, and xTEM data all run through TEMimage.
What do I need before importing data?
Data recorded in dual-moment mode (both Low Moment and High Moment), with GPS positions included. TEMimage doesn’t support datasets without GPS. Using the original project/data folder structure as downloaded from the instrument gives the best results.
What inversion methods does TEMimage use?
Lateral Constraint Inversion (LCI) and Spatial Constraint Inversion (SCI) run through TEMcompany’s own inversion engine, with both L2 (smooth) and L1 (block) norm options available.
What can I export from TEMimage?
Data exports to XYZ. Models can be exported to XYZ, KMZ, VTK, DAT, Leapfrog (.csv), general CSV, or a PDF report. GPS positions export as an ESRI shapefile. Plots save as TIFF, PNG, or SVG.
Do I need a product key to run TEMimage?
Yes, a valid product key activates the license. Licenses are typically perpetual; software support and updates renew annually. No key? Contact support@temcompany.com.
My data shows a sign change, is that a problem?
The occurrence of a sign change in TEM data should be interpreted with caution. Sign changes can result from natural phenomena, such as a highly conductive near-surface layer or induced polarization effects, but they may also be caused by transmitter–receiver geometry and coupling effects. Depending on the underlying cause, sign changes may require different approaches during data processing and interpretation.
What's new in TEMimage 2.0
TEMimage 2.0 is a rebuild of TEMimage’s processing software, built around four changes:
- Speed. Inversion runs up to 20x faster than TEMimage 1.0, including large-scale LCI and SCI datasets.
- One database. Every instrument type — sTEM, tTEM, TEM2Go, xTEM — and every project now share a single database, with multiple projects open side by side.
- Cross-platform. Native support for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Built around how you work. A redesigned, user-configurable interface layout, with resistivity grids, maps, and profiles autosaving as you go.
The core workflow—data import, review and processing, LCI/SCI inversion, and export to XYZ, KMZ, VTK, DAT, Leapfrog, or PDF remains unchanged, so existing projects and know-how carry over directly.
